OriginsFounded by Spencer in 1950; raised to the status of abbey in 1958.
History
  • 1950: The foundation developed with difficulty both in terms of personnel and material resources, but by 1958 erection into an abbey was possible.
  • 1958, 18 November: blessing of first abbot.
  • 1970, 18 November: a car accident takes the lives of 3 monks: Fr. Georges Supry, Fr. Henry Maloney and Br Cyrill Cornish.

Work/incomeNatural Cemetery, Bakery (fruitcakes and creamed honey). Gift shop (books, religious articles, and food products from several of our monasteries).
Guest facilities16 rooms: 2 groups (individual retreats) per week: Mon.-Fri. and Fri.-Sun. The former guest house is used for monks’ families. We also have a special long-term retreat programme for men in the community.
