Website for Benedictine Jubilee

The letter from Abbot Primate Jeremias Schröder OSB

Dear Brothers and Sisters, on this feast of Saint Benedict, I am delighted to share with you a sneak preview of the website for our “Benedictine Jubilee – Places of Hope since 529.” As members of our Benedictine family, you are among the first to see what is beginning to take shape—even as it remains very much a work in progress.

Following a decision of the last Congress of Abbots, we will commemorate the 1500th anniversary of the foundation of Montecassino as a jubilee for the entire Benedictine family. This is an opportunity to give thanks for fifteen centuries of Benedictine life, to reflect on where we stand today, and to look to the future with renewed faith and hope. The jubilee will unfold over the coming years and culminate in 2029.

The website we share with you today is intended to become the central hub for the jubilee: a place for sharing plans, coordinating events, and engaging monasteries, friends, pilgrims, and all who are seeking. It will also serve as a showcase for our monasteries and Benedictine lay movements around the world.

This is a global initiative, and the website will be available in five languages. At present, however, it is still clearly in development—a true beta version. The most evident gap at this stage is that the data for the women’s monasteries has not yet been incorporated, and other elements, too, still need to be completed and refined. I ask for your patience and generosity, and especially for your support in helping us shape this into a vibrant and living hub for our monastic world.

In time, this platform will replace OSB Atlas. We will soon write again to provide you with access to the pages dedicated to your own monastery.

We warmly welcome your feedback at this early stage. Please feel free to share your observations and suggestions at adam.simon@anselmianum.com.

With gratitude and best wishes,

Jeremias Schröder OSB - Abbot Primate
