Origins

Founded by Achel in 1883; raised to the rank of priory in 1891 and to the rank of abbey in 1935.

History

1890, 29 April: transfer of the community from the farm  “Vrieswijck” to the present site in a place called “Tjoen”, municipality of Diepenveen.

1895: Change of name from O.L. of the Sacred Heart of Jesus to O.L. of Sion.

1939, 31 August: Consecration of the abbatial church.

31 January: blessing of the new west wing and of the east cloister.

2015, 29 December: The monks left the place to transfer to the island of Schiermonnikoog
