Kopua

On April 8 Dom Brian Keogh offered his resignation as abbot of Kopua to the Abbot General, for reasons of health. The Abbot General, after consultation with the persons concerned and with the consent of his council, accepted the resignation which became effective on April 19, 2015.

On April 9 Dom Liam O’Connor, Superior ad nutum of Mount Melleray Abbey and Father Immediate of Kopua, delegated his authority as Father Immediate to Dom Steele Hartmann, abbot of Tarrawarra, with immediate effect. Dom Steele, in line with C. 39.1 thus has assumed responsibility at Kopua as the community discerns about an election.

Dom Brian has gone to Tarrawarra Abbey for convalescence and medical care. He and the community are commended to your prayers.

Mount St. Bernard

On April 16, 2015, the Community of Mount St Bernard Abbey (diocese of Nottingham, England) elected as abbot, for a six year term, Dom Erik Varden.

Dom Erik was born in 1974 and entered Mount St Bernard in 2002. He made solemn profession in 2007 and was ordained a priest in 2011. At the time of his election, he was Superior ad nutum of Mount St Bernard.

The Congregation for the Causes of Saints has decided that the Beatification of the Martyrs of Viaceli and the Martyrs of Algemesí will take place at 12.00 hrs on Saturday, October 3, 2015 in the cathedral of Santander, Cantabria, Spain.

Dom Hugues Chapelain de Seréville, Abbot of Neiges, and Mother Anne-Emmanuelle Devêche, Abbess of Blauvac, recently completed the special Visitation requested by the General Chapter of 2014 for the community of Baumgarten.

On March 25, 2015, Dom Dominique-Marie Schoch, Superior ad nutum of Oelenberg and Father Immediate of Baumgarten, appointed Mother Anne-Emmanuelle Devêche Superior ad nutum of Baumgarten.

Mother Anne-Emmanuelle continues as Abbess of Blauvac.

He entered O. L. of Guadalupe in 2004 and made his solemn profession in 2010.

5 March, 2015 the Congregation of Institutes for Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life appointed Moeder Rebekka Willekes, Prioress of Priorij O.L. Vr. van Klaarland, in Belgium, as Abbess Administrator of the Abbaye Notre-Dame de Clairefontaine (diocese of Namur, Belgium).

Moeder Rebekka is appointed “ad nutum Sanctae Sedis” that is directly under the authority of the Congregation for as long as the Holy See considers it necessary.

   

Martyrs of Viaceli

As already announced, on January 22, the Holy Father Pope Francis received in private audience his Eminence Card. Angelo Amato, SDB, prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. During this audience the Pope authorized the Congregation to promulgate the decree concerning the martyrdom of the Servants of God Pio Heredia and 17 Companions, monks and nuns of the Cistercian Order of the Strict Observance (Trappists) and of the Congregation of San Bernard: killed in hatred of the faith in 1936, during the Spanish Civil War.
