On June 14, 2012, Dom Richard Purcell, Abbot of Mount St Joseph Abbey, Roscrea (Ireland) and Father Immediate Delegate of Mellifont Abbey (Ireland), appointed Father Joseph Ryan as Superior ad nutum of Mellifont Abbey. Dom Joseph will begin his service on June 24, 2012 and he will replace Dom Laurence McDermott who has been Superior ad nutum of Mellifont since May 2011.

Dom Joseph was born in 1956 in Tipperary (Ireland). He entered Mellifont in 1991, made his solemn profession in 1996 and was ordained priest in 2012. He was Prior of the Community before the appointment.
