Valverde

Monks; founded in Spain as a refuge by Sept-Fons; 1880 – 1882

Facing the threat of expulsion, Sept-Fons set up a refuge, sending Fr. Symphorien Bernigaud to Spain with a group of ten monks.  They had received the permission of the local bishop and the government.

Around that time, Sept-Fons bought property on the Isle of Hern, near Guernsey, in English territory.  We don’t know what happened to it.

As for Valverde, the monks had to return to France in 1882; this house was completely provisional.
