**************
This work, proposed and supported by the Order’s Abbot General, was
carried out by a group of monks and nuns, specialists in their field.
The first volume is principally historical: it describes the events
that have marked the Order in the first part of the century and
sketches the portrait of some of the great figures of this period,
among whom are the first six Abbot Generals. The studies are partly
based on the documents of the Order’s Archives, which up to now have
not been exploited to this extent.
The second volume presents the story of the post-conciliar renewal,
narrated by some its principal actors and seeks to present the
current state of the Order in different aspects: identity,
spirituality, formation, liturgy, expansion, place in the Cistercian
family and in the Church (for example, monks’ participation in
ecumenism or in interreligious dialogue, etc.)
This work, which has no equivalent in contemporary literature, is
fundamental for better knowing the Trappists in their development
and characteristics. It is like an official manifesto of the Order.
