II)     Informations

·         Update on the Abbot General’s Health

            On October 3, a little over a year since his operation for a cerebral aneurysm, Dom Bernardo went in for a check-up. The purpose was to inspect the site of last year’s operation. Unfortunately, the angiogram shows that an aneurysm has formed in the same place. Although it is still very small, it seems better to operate again to prevent another hemorrhage. It will be the same kind of operation as last time, i.e. endovascular embolization.

            Since there is no urgency, Dom Bernardo will return to Azul on October 15 for his annual visit and for a course on spiritual discernment with the formators of REMILA as planned. The operation will be scheduled for early December, in Rome, at the same hospital and by the same doctor. The recovery period this time should be much shorter, about a week.

            Dom Bernardo’s general health is good. He has been able to maintain his usual schedule of activities all through 2007. If the operation goes well, he will be able to do the same in 2008. In the meantime we will all be praying for his continued good health.

·         Regarding Death Notices

             At present the Communities of the Order are informed of the death of a monk or nun either by the Community sending a notice to each Community of the Order or by publication in the Bulletin. It seems that there are some death notices that go unreported.

To avoid that and to encourage solidarity with our Brothers and Sisters who have gone before us to Eternity, we want to introduce on the web site a Necrology page. At the time of the death of a member of the Order, the community is being asked to send directly to the Secretary of the Generalate, by e-mail ocsoroma@ocso.org, or by fax ([39] 06 592 21 62) or by regular mail, the following information:
                        -The name of the monastery;
                        -The name of the deceased;
                        -The age at the time of death and the years of monastic profession.
For the Communities who do not have access to the internet, the list as it appeared on the web page will be sent with the Bulletin.
For the Communities who wish to have a notice in the Bulletin, that service will continue as it has in the past. Obviously the Communities who wish to send notices of their deceased to all the Order are encouraged to continue.
