I)     Monasteries 

 Rawaseneng [67] : Dom Frans HARJAWIYATA having celebrated his 75th birthday offered his resignation as Abbot of the Community. Dom Frans had been Superior of the Foundation (1963 - 1966), then Superior ad nutum and Tituar Prior (1976) and elected abbot in 1978. Dom Frans' resignation became effective October 1, 2006. On October 18, Dom Bernardus PEETERS, Abbot of Tilburg and Father Immediate of Rawaseneng presided at the election of Brother Gonzaga RUDIYAT as abbot of RAWASENENG for an indefinite term. Brother Gonzaga was Prior of the Community at the time of his election. Brother has completed all his studies for ordination to the priesthood. He will be ordained in the very near future. Brother Gonzaga was born in 1955 and entered Rawaseneng in 1975. He made his solemn profession in 1982. Brother studied in Rome in 1986. Brother has served the Community as Novice Master, Junior Master, Cellarer and Prior.

Mepkin [62] : Since the death of Abbot Francis Kline on August 27, 2006 the abbatial office of Mepkin Abbey has been vacant. On Sunday, October 29, 2006 the Community elected Father Stanislaus GUMULA as Abbot of MEPKIN for a six year term. Dom Stanislaus was born in Philadelphia PA in 1941. He entered Mepkin Abbey in 1959. Dom Stanislaus studied at Gethsemani Abbey from 1963 to 1966. He professed his solemn vows in 1980 and was ordained priest in 2003. Dom Stanislaus has served the Mepkin Community as Sub-Prior, Novice Master and has been Cellarer from 1984 until his election as abbot.

Huambo [55*] : On November 3, 2006, at the end of her first mandate, Mother Florença KALUMBO RAIMONDO was re-elected Prioress of HUAMBO for a six year term.

Tenshien [15*] : On November 5, 2006, at the end of her first mandate as Abbess of TENSHIEN, Mother Cecilia AOKI was re-elected Abbess of the Community for an indefinite term.

Mariawald [23] : On November 24, 2006, the Community of MARIAWALD, in the diocese of Aachen (Germany), elected as Abbot for an undetermined mandate Dom Josef VOLLBERG, who has been the superior ad nutum since April 23, 2005. The election having been confirmed by the Abbot General, the new Abbot was installed by Dom Antonio Lepore, Abbot of Oelenberg and Father Immediate.

Matutum [64*] : On December 8, 2006, Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, the Community of O.L. of Matutum, in the diocese of Marbel (Philippines), was raised to a Major Priory, in accordance with the decision of the General Chapter of Abbesses, Assisi 2005. On December 9, Mother Giovanna Garbelli, Superior then Prioress of the Community since 2000, was re-elected Prioress for an undetermined mandate.

Frattocchie [37] : Following the resignation of Dom Gonzalo FERNÁNDEZ FERNÁNDEZ for health reason on December 14, 2006, Dom Guillaume JEDRZEJCZAK, Father Immediate and Abbot of Mont-des-Cats, appointed Brother Giuseppe RESMINI Superior ad nutum of the Community on December 21, 2006. Brother Giuseppe, born in 1937, entered Frattocchie in 1980, and made Solemn Profession in 1986. He served as Novice Master and Sub-Prior, and has been Prior since 1997 until his appointment.

IV)     Called by the Lord

 - Vitorchiano [11*] October 8, 2006, Sister Gertrud Schlömer who was born in 1951 in Germany. She entered Vitorchiano in 1983 and made her solemn profession in 1989. She was one of the group of founders of Matutum. Sister was 55  years old and had been in monastic vows for 20 years.

 

- Frattocchie [37] October 16, 2006, Father Ferdinand VERBRAEKEN, who was born in 1916 in Roubaix (France), entered Frattocchie in 1935, made his solemn profession in 1942 and he was ordained a priest in 1944.  Father was in his 90th year of age, the 68th of his monastic profession  and 62 years a priest when he went forth to the Lord.

 

- Berkel [26*]     October 19, 2006, Sister Mechtild HOOYMANS who was born in 1910 in Oegstgeest (The Netherlands). She entered Chimay in 1936, and made her solemn profession in 1941. Sister was 96 years old and had been in monastic vows for 68 years.

 

- Le Désert  [22] October 25, 2006, Father Yves Lefort, who was born in 1920 in Guéméné-Penfao (France), entered Boquen in 1945, after having made temporary profession as a spiritan. He was ordained a priest in 1946, for the diocese of St. Brieuc, but chose to become a carmelite. He entered Desert in 1969, and made Solemn Profession there in 1973. Father was in his 86th year of age, the 33rd of his monastic profession  and 60 years a priest when he went forth to the Lord.

 

- Tenshien [15*]  November 16, 2006, Sister Maria Fides Kuzushima Tazuko who was born in 1929 in Kazurashima (Japon). She entered Tenshien in 1954 and made her solemn profession in 1961. Sister was 77 years old and had been in monastic vows for 49 years.

 

- Nishinomiya [25*] November 19, 2006, Sister Maria Elena Nakamura Tami who was born in 1913 in Kyoto (Japon). She entered Nishinomiya in 1947 and made her solemn profession in 1953. Sister was 93 years old and had been in monastic vows for 56 years.

 

- Oelenberg [9]  November 21, 2006, Father Tarcisius Peters, who was born in 1922 in Stein (The Netherlands), entered Zundert in 1944, made his solemn profession in 1949 and he was ordained a priest in 1951. He arrived at Oelenberg on April 30, 1952, with a group of monks from Zundert. He worked to strengthen the community of Oelenberg alternately as gardener, cellarer and porter, as well as cantor. His humour and his good mood made everyone joyful. Father was in his 84th year of age, the 60th of his monastic profession  and 55 years a priest when he went forth to the Lord.

 

- Melleray [4]      October 27, 2006, Father Antoine Genuit, who was born in 1923 in Tréal (France),  entered Timadeuc in 1943, then entered Melleray in 1947, where he made his solemn profession in 1948. He was ordained a priest in 1951. Father was in his 83th year of age, the 60th of his monastic profession  and 55 years a priest when he went forth to the Lord.

 

- Sint-Sixtus [13] December 8, 2006, Brother Marcel Coopman, who was born in 1921 in Zwevegem (Belgium), entered Sint-Sixtus in 1973 where he made his solemn profession in 1978. Father was in his 85 th year of age and the 31st of his monastic profession when he went forth to the Lord.

 

 

We recommend each one of them

to the prayers of all the brothers and sisters of the Order.
